Building Healthy Hearts – One at a Time

SEASIDE, OR — Getting healthier can be fun when you combine community resources like Providence Seaside Hospital and Sunset Empire Park and Recreation.

Together with Clatsop County Community Advisory Council of Columbia Pacific CCO, they rolled out the Healthy Hearts program for Providence patients who are Oregon Health Plan (OHP) members. The free program for Clatsop County residents helps you reduce risk factors for heart disease by providing one-on-one coaching to lose weight, eat healthier and move more.

“I have been having so much fun being active, learning how to make better food choices and gain mindfulness in everything I do,” says Sonja Pearl of Seaside. She joined the pilot program of Healthy Hearts, and she is excited that the program is continuing.

“I’m thrilled that they are doing the program again. It is so awesome that the community has a program like this,” Sonja says. “I’ve been able to use the pool for classes and we even had a yoga class that was able to accommodate my mobility issues. I’m so grateful for Alix’s help to make such positive progress in my overall well-being.”

Program coach Alix Richardson, a Portland State University graduate, specializes in community health education. She has put together a 12-week program with twice-weekly check-ins, group meetings and scheduled walks. Classes with experts cover yoga and mindfulness, meal planning skills and more.
