Diabetes Prevention Class offered in Tillamook

Image from the Tillamook YMCACould you be prediabetic? More than one out of three American adults have prediabetes and 90 percent don’t even know if they have it. Prediabetes increases your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

That’s why the Tillamook County Consumer Advisory Council of Columbia Pacific CCO has partnered with the Tillamook YMCA, and Northwest Senior and Disability Services to offer a free CDC-recognized diabetes prevention class for Oregon Health Plan members. Working together in a year-long program, class members will learn how to cut their risk of getting diabetes in half by eating healthily, losing weight and being more active.

Are you at risk? Take the Prediabetes Risk Quiz (www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/prediabetes.html) to understand your risk of prediabetes and talk to your health care provider to get your blood sugar tested. Type 2 diabetes can have devastating life-long effects including blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke and loss of toes, feet or legs.

To enroll in the free prediabetes prevention class, call the Kelly Benson at the Tillamook YMCA at 503-842-9622, extension 111.
