Healthy habits are easier to maintain when they start early in life. The Year of Wellness encourages families and students to join the YOW Challenge. Participate in summer reading. Unplug and get active outdoors. Sign up for a local walk or running event. Replace chips and other snacks with fresh fruits and vegetables. Double up SNAP Food Bucks to buy fresh produce at local farmer’s markets. Be sure to visit our YOW booth at the county fair and join our daily hula hoop challenge at the courtyard stage. Are you in? In Columbia County, 72 school children participated in the National Walk/Bike to School Day event on May 4. It was supervised by parent volunteers and Year of Wellness members at two elementary schools, McBride and Lewis & Clark. The kids had great weather and loved learning more about the fun of walking and biking to school.
