Columbia Pacific CCO meets and exceeds Oregon Health Plan performance measures

PORTLAND, Ore. — Columbia Pacific CCO met and exceeded Oregon Health Authority’s (OHA) recently released 2017 Metrics Report. The metrics show how well each of the state’s Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) do in caring for their Oregon Health Plan members.

The report showed that Columbia Pacific CCO met or exceeded 14.8 of the 17 quality performance benchmarks for which CCOs are accountable. The report also shows the amount of incentive payments CCOs will receive, based on their overall results. In addition to achieving 100 percent of the quality measures payout, Columbia Pacific CCO will receive additional funds from a bonus pool. These funds can be used to help pay for performance incentives to providers or for innovative new programs to further improve the quality of health and well-being in the region.

“This shows the great strides made by primary care, dental, and behavioral health organizations working with us in the past five years,” said Safina Koreishi, MD, medical director for Columbia Pacific CCO. “Our clinical partners continue to develop and implement systems and processes to improve clinical care. Every year the improvement target is raised, so continued improvement is always needed to get patients the health screenings and care they need.”

Oregon CCOs continue to advance health system transformation by focusing on better care and better health outcomes while controlling health care costs.

“What we’ve seen over the past five years is that incentives work,” Jeremy Vandehey, OHA’s director of health policy and analytics said in a recent article. “They are driving improvement in the care that Oregonians receive and helping to improve the health of our communities.”

“We are especially excited to see that Columbia Pacific CCO is the highest achiever in Oregon on the prenatal care measure,” Dr. Koreishi said. “We also scored highly in the measures for Diabetes Control and CAHPS access. This survey, ‘Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems,’ asks members about their experience with health care access within their community. This is the first year that we met the CAHPS access metric.”

Over the past year, Columbia Pacific CCO has implemented the following health and wellness support for the communities it serves in Clatsop, Columbia and Tillamook counties:

  • Wellness events and screenings for adolescents within clinics
  • BeneFit program that offers and funds mail-in colon cancer screening tests patients can do from the privacy of their own homes
  • Patient incentives to help encourage health screenings and health services (such as wellness visits and immunizations)
  • Support to clinics and organizations to develop new workflows to improve care for patients

In 2018, according to Dr. Koreishi, the CCO will continue to focus on wellness screenings for all patients (prenatal, early childhood, adolescents, adults and elderly), with a special focus on improving diabetes and high blood pressure control, as well as smoking cessation rates. Dr. Koreishi also says that the CCO will increase awareness of preventive services and encourage members to seek care from health care and dental providers; the goal is to help Oregon Health Plan members be as healthy as possible.
