Columbia Pacific CCO selects contractor to remodel Red Lion Inn & Suites, renames facility The Hawk’s Eye Apartments

Jul 27, 2023, 17:14 PM

(SEASIDE, Oregon) July 27, 2023 — Today, Columbia Pacific CCO and CareOregon announced selecting Bremik Construction/CIDA Architecture as the design-build contractor responsible for remodeling the Red Lion Inn & Suites in Seaside. Contractor selection is the first critical milestone for Columbia Pacific as it works to convert the motel into housing for healthcare workforce and individuals needing permanent supportive housing.

“We selected the Bremik/CIDA team because of their experience working on housing conversion projects, as well as their in depth of knowledge of Oregon’s coastal communities,” said Mimi Haley, Columbia Pacific CCO executive director. “The fact that they’ve worked right here on the coast and have done so successfully was very important for us. We want this project to be something that the whole community is proud of.”

The selected contracting team is comprised of two local Oregon firms. Bremik Construction, an Oregon based contractor, is well known for their strong commitment to quality, craftsmanship, innovation and client satisfaction.  Additionally, CIDA is a woman-owned architecture firm that specializes in creating buildings with simple, well-articulated forms that respond appropriately to both function and environment. Their designs utilize sustainable, low-maintenance materials and construction techniques suitable for each specific application.

“We are honored to been selected as the Design-Builder to build this much needed project. We are excited to work with CareOregon and CIDA to deliver this project that will have a positive and lasting impact to the community,” said Tygh Colson, Bremik Construction preconstruction manager .

The Bremik/CIDA team brings robust experience working in a design-build arrangement, where project design and construction occur under a single contract. Design-build arrangements promote faster timelines and typically deliver projects at lower costs than traditional design-bid-build projects.

“Our team is thrilled to be a part of this exciting and meaningful project,” says CIDA’s Associate Architect, Leslie Jones LEED AP BD+C. “This venture presents a unique opportunity to provide innovative solutions to an evolving and urgent need in our communities. The work that we have already done with the CareOregon and Bremik teams showcases the unique approach – underscored by overarching compassion and awareness of diverse community needs.  We are honored to be part of this team.”

As part of the project, the Red Lion Inn & Suites is getting more than a facelift, it is also getting a new name. Upon opening in late-spring 2024, 50-60 unit housing complex will be known as The Hawk’s Eye Apartments.

Housing units will be reserved for healthcare workers, largely through agreements between provider organizations and the CCO. Permanent supportive housing units will be managed by Clatsop Behavioral Health and made available based on individual need, including specific health conditions. At this point, there is no mechanism to for individuals to express interest in a housing unit.

The Columbia Pacific and CareOregon team considered many names with a meaningful association to wellness and health care. The theme of the color blue was selected for its connection to health, specifically behavioral health. The Hawk’s Eye gemstone has been used for centuries to heal the mind, body and spirit. The name of The Hawk’s Eye Apartments, therefore, has a thematic resonance with the vision and purpose of the building.

Bremik Construction will advertise bid opportunities in local newspapers and trade publications, and post documents in plan rooms. Additionally, it will work with the Seaside Chamber of Commerce and other agencies to share the opportunity with members.
